Rule change regarding diesel cars up to 3.5 tons in environmental zones.
From 1st. July 2020, older cars must have particle filters to drive in the cities of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg. Since 1 January 2011, it has no longer been possible to import and register brand new cars without particle filters. Cars must be registered no later than 1 January 2007 or have retrofitted a particle filter in order to have access to environmental zones in cities. From 1st. July 2022, the same access applies to vans registered no later than 1 January 2012 and again from 1st. July 2025, the same rule applies to all vans registered from 1 September 2016 or has had a particle filter retrofitted. Until the mentioned due dates, there is a tax of Kr. 1000,- per car annually on cars without or have not retrofitted particle filters.
The exceptions are:
Registered vintage cars in Denmark.
Cars registered abroad that are more than 30 years old.
Vehicles used only on particular occasions by the military, defense or police.
